British Triathlon adds Eton Sprints as ITU World Triathlon Chicago qualifier

Organised by Human Race, the Eton Sprints event, set to take place on 23 May 2015, has been selected as a qualifying event for the 2015 International Triathlon Union Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championship in Chicago, alongside two other events – the St Neots Sprint (NiceTri Events) and Nottingham Triathlon (One Step Beyond).

The Eton Sprints route will see athletes tackle a 750m swim, followed by a 21.2K cycle course before finishing with a 5K run.

Held at the iconic Eton Dorney, home of rowing and canoeing during the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, the course is well known for being flat and fast, ideal for marking personal bests. The 2014 edition of the Eton Sprints saw the top three finishers all cross the line with breath-taking sub-one hour times.

Jon Ridgeon, Director for Major and National Events at the British Triathlon Federation, said “We are really excited to be working with Human Race again in 2015. The Eton Sprints is sure to provide some fast and competitive racing for athletes hoping to qualify for the World Sprint Championships in Chicago next September.”

Nick Rusling, CEO of Human Race, said “It is fantastic that our Eton Sprints event has been chosen as a qualifier for the World Sprint Championships. On what is probably the flattest triathlon course in the UK, we are expecting to see some thrilling performances from those taking part.

“It is a wonderful event and such a great opportunity for those working towards securing the honour of representing Great Britain.”

For those that want a ‘sneak-peek’ of the course before the qualifiers, there are a number of Human Race events being held at Dorney Lake in the weeks leading up to the Eton Sprints. These events include the Garmin Eton Supersprint races and Triathlon Training Day on 16-17 May.
