The 2014 USA Triathlon National Championship schedule has been finalized with the announcement of Club and Off-Road National Championships.
The Chicago Triathlon, hosted by Life Time — The Healthy Way of Life Company — and presented by Toyota, will host top multisport clubs from across the United States on 23-24 August 2014. Club Nationals scoring is based on individual performances in the Olympic-distance, sprint and super-sprint events, with each event and age group set to be scored separately.
Elite athletes and paratriathletes will also have the ability to score points in their respective waves. Details on scoring will be available at a later date, and youth events and relay teams will not count in club scoring.
A total prize purse of US$8,750 will be awarded to the top three clubs in each of the five divisions based on full roster size:
- Division I: 250-plus Total Members
- Division II: 130-249 Total Members
- Division III: 89-129 Total Members
- Division IV: 30-88 Total Members
- Division V: 2-29 Total Members
USA Triathlon reached an all-time high with more than 1,000 official clubs in 2013.
Off-Road Nationals will be held at XTERRA Richmond in Virginia on 15 June. The course has been part of the XTERRA circuit since 1998, and the River City is seen as a premier destination for off-road racing adventures. Beginning at James River, the 1000m swim, 32K mountain bike, 10K trail run event also serves as the XTERRA East Championship.
In addition to chasing national titles in Richmond, athletes also will be competing for prized spots on Team USA for the 2015 International Triathlon Union (ITU) Cross Triathlon World Championships; the date and location of which will be announced later this year by ITU.
The top 18 finishers (rolling down to 25th place) in each age group will qualify for a Team USA slot. Team USA is comprised of amateur athletes who represent the US at each ITU World Championship event.
Registration for the 2014 USA Triathlon Off-Road Nationals is currently open, and an early-bird rate of US$75 is available until 15 February.
