It is now less than three weeks for the ‘X edition’ of the iconic Elbaman Triathlon in Italy, which gets under way on 28 September. The organizing team has worked throughout the year to ‘prepare a great weekend for all participants.’
After a successful 2013 edition where a record number of 778 athletes hit the starting line for the full or half distance Elbaman events, the organising team in Italy hope that this year’s event, the tenth anniversary, will be better than ever before.
An Elbaman spokesperson said, “In fact, as we are talking about the X edition of the race and, thinking back to all the work, passion and effort put in over the past nine years, we never thought it possible that we would be able to reach this milestone.”
Elbaman X will once again take place on Elba Island in 2014 – between Corsica and the western coast of Italy. The anniversary is well timed because it also coincides with the 200th anniversary of Napoleon’s exile on the island. During this year’s Napoleonic commemorations, events and memorial ceremonies are being organized. This in turn is expected to boost the profile of Elba Island and the Elbaman triathlon’s corresponding anniversary.
The classic Elbaman Kids event kicks off proceedings on the afternoon of Saturday 27 September. This year the kids event is also open to kids aged 6-7 years. An expo with a variety of endurance sport and triathlon gear will be on show. There will also be the opportunity to sample local products such as the ‘fantastic honey, 100% made in Elba.’
There are currently around 680 athletes on the entry lists of the full and half distance events for Sunday 28 September – representing 20 countries worldwide. Entries closed on 31 August.
Race commentary starts at 07:00 local time. Local DJs and media representatives from Radio Bruno are taking a stand on the course with a DJ truck near the finish line. Radio Bruno is a major Italian radio station with a wide broadcast range and audience in many regions of central-north Italy. It is promoting the race during the month leading up to race day.
