The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), a world leader in helping individuals with physical challenges get involved and stay involved in sports, is auctioning an entry to the sold out Challenge Roth 2014 event through an eBay live auction.
The DATEV Challenge Roth triathlon, produced by the Challenge Family and held in Roth, Germany, is one of the most revered full-distance triathlons in the world; and it is hoped the entry slot will attract interest from age groupers who missed out on a place.
Places for this year’s DATEV Challenge Roth in Germany, which takes place on 20 July 2014, sold out in record time – just over 3 minutes!
The auction went live on Monday 3 March at 09:00 PST and closes Friday on 14 March 22:00 PST. The funds raised from the auction will directly support CAF’s mission to fund adaptive sports equipment (such as handcycles and prosthetic running legs), training and competition expenses and mentoring opportunities.
“We are very excited to partner with the Challenge Family to provide this opportunity to our supporters,” said Virginia Tinley, Executive Director of the Challenged Athletes Foundation. “The Challenge Roth triathlon is truly a once-in-a-lifetime event and it is perfectly fitting in that providing these entries to an athlete, they in turn will provide life-changing support to athletes with physical disabilities.”
Each year professional triathletes and age group athletes from around the world travel to the historic town for a chance to race in what has become known as ‘the world’s biggest, fastest long-distance race’ where many full-distance triathlon world records have been set by triathletes such as Chrissie Wellington and Andreas Raelert.
Athletes can bid directly for the race entry on eBay. (At the time of writing the starting bid stood at US$2,000.)
