Events DC Nation’s Triathlon Sprints ahead!

The Events DC Nation’s Triathlon – ‘the only triathlon held in Washington DC’ – is offering even more triathletes the opportunity to ‘test the waters’ with the launch of a shorter, Sprint distance race. The 9th annual Events DC Nation’s Triathlon To Benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, taking place on Sunday, 7 September 2014, is adding a Sprint race for the very first time in its nine year history.

The shorter distance will feature a 750m swim, a single-loop 16 mile bike and a 5K run, finishing within view of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.

“We want to continue pushing the envelope in terms of staging one of the most distinguished triathlon events in the world right here in our Nation’s Capital,” said Molly Quinn, Vice President of Triathlons at Competitor Group, organizers of the Events DC Nation’s Tri.

“The Olympic distance race annually sells out and we know the shorter distance will be attractive to new triathletes just getting involved in the sport. Spots are extremely limited for this inaugural race and will likely sell out by 4th of July weekend, so we’re encouraging participants to register soon.”

The Events DC Nation’s Triathlon is a patriotic weekend celebration with a free two-day Health & Fitness Expo and a finish line festival featuring a live band. The prestigious event is renowned for a scenic course that winds through the National Mall and Memorial Parks, passing by Washington DC’s historical landmarks and with a spectacular finish south of the FDR Memorial.

“No matter your experience level, there is something for everyone at the Events DC Nation’s Triathlon, especially now with the shorter distance race,” said Erik Moses, Managing Director of Events DC’s Sports and Entertainment Division.

“Like the Olympic-style triathlon, the Sprint course will showcase Washington DC throughout the race, giving local and visiting participants a prime opportunity to experience our wonderful city and its unique history and sights.”

Building on the success of its seven-year charity partnership, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society returns as the official and exclusive charity of the event. This makes the event the only triathlon in the US to directly benefit research toward a cure for blood-related cancers.

Through the Team In Training program, participants have raised more than US$14 million for blood cancer research and patient service programs.

Recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as America’s most popular triathlon event, the Events DC Nation’s Triathlon is managed by San Diego-based Competitor Group Inc (CGI), the leading active lifestyle sports media and event entertainment company, and Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia.
