Hitting eight cities around the world in 2014, on 12-13 July the ITU World Triathlon Series lands in Hamburg, Germany, for the 13th annual race. The ITU World Triathlon Hamburg is billed as ‘the world’s biggest tri’ and, for 2014, the Hamburg Marriott Hotel is co-sponsoring the race for the sixth consecutive year
While athletes are busy focusing on training for the fast and furious Sprint & Olympic distance course that runs through Hamburg, the hotel is ‘putting the finishing touches on its race-friendly amenities.’
This July, more than 10,000 triathletes and 300,000 spectators will turn Hamburg into a major triathlon spectacle. In addition to elite racing, the ITU World Triathlon Series event offers options for beginners through to the more serious triathlete with Sprint and Olympic distance waves across the weekend of 12-13 July.
During this year’s race, more than 160 athletes will call the hotel home. Conveniently located in the heart of the ABC district near the race course, the hotel offers recently renovated accommodation. Each of the 270 guest rooms features ‘a marble bath, 24-hour room service, cable TV, coffee/tea maker, high-speed Internet access and a cozy bed with down comforter and fluffy pillows.’
This year, the hotel in Hamburg city centre is placing a special focus on its food offerings. Its Speicher 52 restaurant is seen as a natural fit for guest athletes. The freshly designed space focuses on New Nordic Cuisine, with interpretations of traditional North German and Scandinavian dishes. In the morning, athletes can fuel up on fresh seasonal fruit, eggs, whole grains, fruit juices and teas on the breakfast buffet, while evenings offer healthy, hearty options including fish and vegetable dishes.
The race will travel around the Hamburg city centre hotel, along Alster, Elbchaussee and Rathausmarkt. After a long day, athletes can gather in the hotel’s Pianobar, where an adjoining summer terrace offers ‘the perfect place to celebrate a successful race with friends and family.’
In addition to hosting athletes in its accommodation, the Hamburg Marriott Hotel is also the setting for the traditional triathlon dinner on 10 July, held in the hotel ballroom, and will be the headquarters for the organization and media offices leading up to and during the event.
The Hamburg Marriott Hotel welcomes guests with a variety of sophisticated guest rooms designed to meet the needs of business and leisure travellers while offering onsite dining options, the luxurious aXzea spa and fitness centre and ‘a host of attentive services that ensure a remarkable Hamburg hotel experience.’
