The inaugural Triathlon Plus Show – Driven by SEAT, which ran together with The London Bike Show and The Telegraph Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show, attracted 45,289 visitors overall at ExCel, London. The show organisers have also confirmed its return to the London venue between 12-15 February 2015.
The show offered visitors of all abilities the opportunity to improve their triathlon performance with a range of exhibitors, experts and training sessions available.
The organisers note that the highlight of the show was the TriRadar Performance Zone, which offered elite one-to-one performance assessments with experts from the Surrey Human Performance Institute. The masterclasses on offer in the (chilly!) indoor pool also proved popular with visitors seeking to improve their technique with the latest range of market-leading wetsuits available for swimmers to try.
The P20 Sun Protection Experts Theatre provided visitors with presentations and advice from experts such as James Cracknell and pro-triathletes Helen Jenkins and Lucy Gossage.
Joe Wainwright, Laboratory Manager, Surrey Human Performance Institute said “The TriRadar Performance Zone was a great experience for Surrey Human Performance Institute and we would definitely like to do it again next year. The area was very busy over the four days and it created a lot of attraction from visitors.”
Dean Jackson, Founder, HUUB said “We went into the show not sure what we were going to get. We left knowing exactly what we were getting, a great well organised event, large and appropriate visitor numbers that delivered the audience we were looking for. Congrats to the team for giving triathlon another great exhibition home.”
Philip Crawford, Director at retailer Mailsports said “We were really impressed with the first Triathlon Plus Show. The large swimming pool, which we haven’t seen elsewhere, was a great addition and allowed the wetsuit brands and ourselves to really interact with visitors, to whom we were able to offer a ‘try before you buy service’.”
He continued, “Our staff were busy throughout the four days, offering advice and fitting wet- and swim-suits, accessories and goggles for visitors who were ready to purchase at the show. I’m excited to see how this show grows and develops in the future”
Premier running brand Brooks exhibited at the event, showcasing its latest trainer designs and offering visitors gait analysis to assist with shoe fit. Visitors were also able to experience a full biomechanical analysis courtesy of The Running School.
Mike East, Marketing Manager at Brooks UK said “The Triathlon Plus Show provided us with a great opportunity to showcase our gait analysis and fitting service, increase brand awareness and chat to our customers, both new and old. Our stand was consistently busy and the show exceeded our expectations for year one.
“We worked closely with Alton Sports who retailed our footwear and I know they were also very pleased with the results. We were impressed with the professional organisation of the show and it’s definitely an event that’s on our radar moving forward.”
Billed as ‘the world’s largest triathlon store’, TriUK, had a large stand with hundreds of bikes on offer from top brands – many of which could be tested out on the 500m cycling test track.
(TriUK sadly experienced a theft just after the show. The Yeovil-based retailer is offering a £100,000 reward for any information that can help bring about the return of two vans full of bikes and equipment, which were stolen after the company exhibited at the Triathlon Plus Show at Excel in London.)
Wattbikes were prominent throughout the show, giving visitors the chance to test their power output to enhance their training.
Tom Crampton, Marketing Manager at Wattbike said “Wattbike were offering people the opportunity to get on a Wattbike and experience it for the first time. Over the four days over 300 people signed up to spend 15 minutes with one of our expert members of staff and learn about training with power and heart rate, check their pedalling technique and discuss their training.
“The show was a success for Wattbike with a three-fold uplift in sales at the show when compared to last year with many more to come. Overall a great show and we’ll definitely be back next year.”
Geraldine Reeve, Group Show Director at VOS Media noted, “Four years on from the launch of The London Bike Show, which has now firmly established itself as the UK’s number one cycling exhibition, it was a great pleasure to oversee the launch of the Triathlon Plus Show this year.
“We wanted to create an event where both experienced triathletes and those just starting out would feel comfortable browsing, buying and getting involved in a range of coaching opportunities. We delivered an impressive event with a great range of top triathlon brands and the attendance of an engaged audience.”
She continued, “The unique offering of one to one elite performance assessments proved incredibly popular, as did the masterclasses in the indoor swimming pool, biomechanical analysis’ from The Running School and the opportunity to test the latest bikes on the RCUK test track – this is testament to the success of the event.
“We are delighted with the results, and judging by the feedback, so are the majority of our visitors, exhibitors, sponsors and partners. We’re aiming to make giant strides in the coming year and with the continued support of The Telegraph, our partners and exhibitors look forward to putting on a spectacular event in 2015.”
Dave King, Executive Director, Telegraph Media Group added, “The Telegraph could not be more delighted with the event, and look forward to raising the bar for our customers again in 2015.”
