ITU Triathlon World Cup heats-up in Tiszaujavros

Tiszaujvaros in northern Hungary will again return an innovative heats-finals format on the ITU Triathlon World Cup circuit this weekend. Athletes will compete in a series of sprint distance semi-finals on Saturday to decide who will fight it out in another sprint distance race final on Sunday.

The fastest nine in each heat will advance, in addition to the next three fastest times for a total of 30 athletes in the final. Both the men’s and women’s races will showcase talented fields with athletes such as Annamaria Mazzetti (ITA) and Dmitry Polyanskiy (RUS) on the list.

Now in its 18th year, Tiszaujvaros is just two hours from Budapest and thanks to its status as the second longest running ITU event, is known as the triathlon capital of Hungary.

The World Cup event has one of the best atmospheres of any on the ITU calendar and is a summer tradition in Tiszaujvaros, as the event has a festival like atmosphere. ITU legends such as Emma Carney, Hamish Carter, Loretta Harrop and Javier Gomez have all topped the podium at the event affectionately known as ‘Tiszy’.
