The trend for tying up triathlon with stately homes in the UK continues in 2014, as Xtra Mile Events has announced the launch and opening of registration for the Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth. The brand new event for 2014 is based at one of the UK’s most iconic and best-known country estates.
Taking place on Sunday 13 July at the Chatsworth Estate in the middle of the Peak District in Derbyshire, the Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth is positioned as a world class triathlon with options of a sprint and standard distance race.
Entry costs are £62/£57 (standard/sprint) for individual entries or £75 for team relay entries – with the first wave starting at 07:00. The Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth will also feature a women’s only wave.
The sprint distance race incorporates a 750m swim in the river Derwent followed by a 20.5K bike ride in stunning Peak District countryside. The race finishes with a picturesque 5K run in the expansive parkland, featuring some highlights of the Chatsworth Estate including the famous Hunting Tower and the amazing views of the estate.
The standard distance race consists of a 1000m swim followed by a 39K cycle leg and a 10K run.
Chatsworth, set in the heart of the Peak District, is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and has been passed down through sixteen generations of the Cavendish family.
Athletes and their friends & families can admire the splendour of the house, explore the garden and meet the animals in the farmyard and adventure playground. Visitors can also experience a taste of Chatsworth in the gift shops, many restaurants and the award winning estate farm shop, or take a stroll through the beautiful 1000 acre park.
And as well as its inspiring architecture, landscape and history, Chatsworth also houses one of Europe’s most significant art collections.
Race Director Simon Hill commented “We are very excited to launch the Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth, adding an iconic event to our portfolio. The Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth is set to become one of the nation’s favourite events, taking place in not only one of the most beautiful parts of the country but also at one of the UK’s finest country estates.
“This event features some stunning picture book scenery, and with it including a sprint distance race it is accessible for triathletes of all levels. A triathlon at Chatsworth is the perfect opportunity to combine taking part in an iconic race with having a family day out and exploring the Peak District… Chatsworth has some amazing things for the rest of the family to do and the Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth is a great way to start a family day out at the Estate.”
