Headed up as ‘the perfect race to end the season’, the Castle Triathlon Series has released a new video that showcases its main Hever Castle Triathlon event, which takes place at the end of September, for ‘first-timers and children to elite performers in a stunning location.’
With 6000 participants, the Hever Castle Triathlon has built a strong following with the UK triathlete community – making the event among one of the largest in the UK. On 27-28 September 2014, all set in the Kent countryside and the grounds of Hever Castle, the Hever Castle Triathlon offers up a weekend festival of triathlon with distances to suit all levels of ages and abilities:
- Super Sprint
- Sprint Plus
- Olympic
- Half iron/middle distance (Gauntlet)
The Hever Castle Triathlon also includes ‘the world’s largest children’s triathlon’. In 2013, with 1,200 taking part, the organisers noted that this event was ‘likely to be the largest children’s triathlon in the world… [including] lots of siblings and school classes racing together.’
In September 2013, Hever Castle Triathlon hosted The Gauntlet – the Castle Triathlon Series’ new half iron/middle distance format (1.9K swim, 90K cycle and a 21K run) that, according to the organisers, is ‘attracting serious triathletes from across Europe to race around the scenic Kent countryside.’
Race Director, Brian Adcock explained “The Gauntlet half iron distance race is a natural extension to our competitor offering; we want there to be a race for everyone and this will certainly appeal to those who are after the next step up from the Olympic distance.
“Hever Castle offers a stunning venue and scenic grounds perfect to motivate and inspire those taking part in a long distance challenge.”
For those who wish to ratchet up from middle to long distance triathlon, The Bastion at Hever Castle, has been confirmed to take place on Sunday 13 July 2014. This is the first time the series has held a race at Hever Castle separate from the main September flagship event – the Hever Castle Triathlon.
According to the organisers, a mid-summer date for The Bastion ‘recognises the increasing demand from competitors to race at the venue and the trend towards long distance races.’ The event will be teamed up with a swim festival, with unique opportunities for children and adults to swim a range of distances including the stunning loop through Hever Castle lake and the River Eden.
