New Reprieve Saddle addresses a perineal problem

3 West Design has created the Reprieve Saddle, which is positioned as a radically shaped bike saddle that combines a deep dropped mid section with an integrated air bladder. This is fittingly referred to as the ‘active surface’, as it provides an ‘air-balanced interface between the rider and saddle.’

The saddle combines these anatomically responsive attributes with ‘a flat, stable surface for peddling performance and nose for turning.’

3 West Design spokesperson Angie Marceleno explained, “We are excited to provide a truly distinctive performance saddle to the cycling community that solves a perpetual issue for cyclists. To put it simply, this saddle fits the anatomy better.

“By dropping the mid-section nearly an inch, and adding a discrete, very tough medical-grade air bladder that cushions but simultaneously supports the perineum and areas forward, there is no compromise between comfort and competitive performance.”

The saddle is also expected to retain the weight of a lightweight saddle at around 210g, making it ideal for a variety of uses.

3 West plans on incorporating the technology into a wider women’s racing saddle, along with commuter and leisure saddles. The company will offer crowd sourcing opportunities on Kickstarter on 16 September.
