This year’s Tour of Aufderheide cycling event is again co-sponsored by Eugene cycling industry manufacturers Rolf Prima and Co-Motion Cycles.
The second annual Tour of Aufderheide on 13 July is positioned as being for all racers and recreational bicyclists. Although, riders who completed the 117-mile Gran route on 1 June at this year’s The Oregon Gran Fondo in Cottage Grove remain eligible for the ‘Oregon Triple Crown’ if they can finish Aufderheide’s 100-mile Alpine route.
The Alpine route (5,800ft of elevation gain) is one of three supported rides on the Aufderheide Scenic Roadway that winds into the Willamette National Forest from Westfir, about 50 minutes east of Eugene. The other routes are Box Canyon (64 miles and 2,660ft of elevation gain), and Kiahanie (variable at rider’s discretion, 10-40 miles and up to 1,100ft of elevation gain).
The event also features: cash prizes (provided by the Slocum Center); a beer garden (with a free post-ride meal provided by the Westfir Lodge and hydration by Oakshire Brewing); post-ride raffle of prizes contributed by sponsors and organizers; well-stocked aid stations with food, water and Hammer HEED drink; support vehicles and mechanical support.
Headquarters and Start-Finish for this Oregon Bicycle Racing Association-sanctioned event will be at the Westfir Portal (Office Bridge [Red Bridge] Park) in historic Westfir. Organised by dark:30 sports, the event is produced in cooperation with the City of Westfir and will highlight the natural beauty of this rural area.
The final event in dark30 sports’ Oregon Triple Crown series of races and recreational riding events is the Oregon Coast Gravel Epic in Waldport on 23 August.
