To make the race experience even more attractive for athletes, the organizers of Challenge Vichy have made some changes to the event’s marathon run course. This latest develop follows a number of new developments at Challenge Family’s long distance tri event in France.
After the success of the 2013 edition of Challenge Vichy where 1,400 triathletes landed in Auvergne, France, for two event distances (Half and Full), the organizers recently decided to add an Olympic Distance event to the 2014 line-up.
The new Olympic distance triathlon (swim 1500m, bike 40K, run 10K) will be held on 30 August 2014. The Challenge Vichy and Vichy Half Triathlon will be held on 31 August.
“Since the start of Challenge Vichy, we have kept the run course in the parks and on the banks of the River Allier, “said Gael Mainard, Challenge Vichy Race Director.
“With the event growing, we wanted to change the Challenge Vichy run course by passing in front of the famous Vichy Spa, through the iconic arcades in the Parc des Sources and past the stunning Vichy Opera building, allowing athletes to discover the true heart of the city.
“We are sure the athletes will enjoy running in this unique setting, rich in history, and that the Vichy crowds will turn out in force to support them on their journey.”
Registration for this year’s event has been open since 15 September 2013. The first change in event pricing was on 15 October 2013. Although, in 2014, a new system of reimbursement has been put in place in case of cancellation.
Challenge Vichy’s swim leg benefits from being between two bridges that cross the Allier River making it easily accessible to spectators to see all the action.
The 180K bike takes competitors through the forest before emerging with a breath-taking view of the Auvergne volcanoes and countryside with its iconic wheat fields and sunflowers. Finally, the predominantly flat run had previously gone between the city parks and along the banks of the Allier River. Athletes will now get to take in more of Vichy’s sites during the run in 2014.
