For the second consecutive year, Trek Bicycle will be matching donations to World Bicycle Relief dollar-for-dollar during the month of July, doubling donors’ generosity. In July 2013, the first year of the Trek Match campaign, Trek and World Bicycle Relief’s doubling donation efforts yielded 1,500 new purpose-built bicycles for African healthcare workers, entrepreneurs, and deserving students.
In the developing world, mobility equates to opportunity and it is in those places that World Bicycle Relief’s work is of vital importance.
“Last July, Trek mobilized over 1,500 people thanks to their dollar-for-dollar match; making an incredible impact in the field. Their commitment to the Power of Bicycles is stunning,” said FK Day, co-founder and President of World Bicycle Relief. “Quite simply, we couldn’t do our work without this kind of leadership and support.”
One of those students that exemplifies the purpose of World Bicycle Relief, Pauline, who is featured throughout the 2014 campaign, was a bike recipient through the 2013 edition of Trek Match. Through the simple gift of a bicycle, Pauline has a faster way to get to school where she arrives less fatigued and ready to learn.
Her parents’ carrying capacity has simultaneously increased by five times, helping them bring more goods to market and the potential to earn more money for Pauline’s family.
“World Bicycle Relief is doing some of the most important work in the bicycle industry today and we are proud to support those efforts,” said Trek President John Burke. “The bicycle can solve some of the world’s most complex problems and World Bicycle Relief is living proof of what is possible.”
Cycling fans and consumers in general can join Trek and World Bicycle Relief this July and donate at: worldbicyclerelief.org/trekmatch. Whether individuals donate or not, they can help the cause and spread goodwill via social media using the hashtag #TrekMatch.
