Wolfgangsee Challenge 2014 taking triathletes off-road in Salzkammergut

For its 11th outing, this September, the Wolfgangsee Challenge will gather off-road triathlon enthusiasts in the Salzkammergut region of Austria. The organizers expect this year to feature a large national and international starting field for all Wolfgangsee Challenge competitions.

On Saturday 6 September, the two cross triathlon competitions, X-Challenge and X-Challenge Sprint are on the agenda. On 7 September, the Olympic Distance Challenge event ‘writes a new chapter in its history at the Wolfgangsee.’

Off-road day
In addition to the classic X-Challenge distance of 1.5K swim, 46K bike and 16K run, the X-Challenge Sprint event features a 750m swim, 21K bike and a concluding 5K run.

The organisers note that the X-Challenge Sprint is positioned as an incentive for newcomers or juniors. The swimming and running routes are identical for both distances, with a second loop undertaken in the classic X-Challenge event. The longer variant of the MTB route leads a bit deeper into the Salzkammergut region.

The Kids Challenge will be held on Sunday 7 September. Here, potential young athletes aged between six and 15 years can get a taste of the sport of triathlon.

The day after
After the completion of the cross triathlons, on Sunday 7 September, triathletes can duel on the Olympic Distance Challenge or the Classic Sprint Challenge.

Taking a combined score from the two longer distance events across the weekend, a King and Queen of the Challenge will be also crowned for the first time (Challenge King & Queen).
