A test of durability: CeramicSpeed launches new headset

Danish ceramic bearing specialist CeramicSpeed launched the new CeramicSpeed headset at the Taipei International Cycle Show last week. Compatible with Cervélo and Specialized bicycles, the CeramicSpeed headset is available for purchase from the beginning of May 2015.

Compared to traditional products, the CeramicSpeed headset introduces ‘significantly increased stiffness and extended lifetime, optimizing the front triangle of the bicycle’. Handmade in Denmark, the CeramicSpeed headset adds extra stability to the head tube of the bicycle, allowing ‘smoother and more precise steering’. Packed in a set of upper and lower bearings, top cap and spacers, the CeramicSpeed headset tolerates a lot more stress in steering when tracking than regular headsets.

The newly released headset is designed to operate with pro-quality precision. Every CeramicSpeed ball used in the bearings is ultra-smooth, ‘400% smoother than steel balls and 100% smoother than any other ceramic balls used in bicycle bearings’. As a result, the CeramicSpeed headset has a ‘high resistance under extreme use and increased durability’.

The CeramicSpeed headset has already been road-tested by teams, including Tinkoff-Saxo. ‘We have tested and have been riding the CeramicSpeed headset for the last two seasons. They may not be highly visible on our S-Works bikes but the riders’ feedback is they can notice that the steering is highly improved. We can easily feel it in the racing experience and we’re glad to be using it again this season.’

Martin Banke, Managing Director at CeramicSpeed, said “We always start from the premise that the riding experience can be improved. We look at products that tend to wear out prematurely and we find solutions that our CeramicSpeed bearings can solve. While other headsets tend to damage fast and have low tolerance levels to extreme conditions, the CeramicSpeed headset provides increased stability, extended lifetime and the highest quality materials.”

CeramicSpeed was founded in 2004 with all products handmade at the company’s HQ in Denmark. The company specializes in ceramic bearings for the cycling industry, distributed in more than 20 countries. Pro Tour teams such as Team Tinkoff-Saxo, Omega Pharma – Quick-Step and Astana Pro Team are riding CeramicSpeed products.
