Aiming high with new Rugby Half Marathon and 5K fun run

All smiles on the start line - Always Aim High Events

Always Aim High Events has today announced that it will be adding a brand new running race to its 2015 events calendar – the Rugby Half Marathon and 5K fun run.

Always Aim High Events, which is already well known for its iconic Anglesey Half Marathon and popular Slateman Triathlon, will be bringing its expertise to Rugby to organise the town’s first ever half marathon. Not only that but the team will organise a 5K fun run on the same day which aims to gives people another ‘perfect opportunity to raise money for charity.’

The race and fun run, which takes place on Sunday 12 July 2015 is expected to be popular due to the high numbers of runners and running clubs who reside in the area and the fact that Rugby is the UK’s fastest growing town!

Online registration for the event is now open and athletes can join the thousands of other runners who will be taking part by signing up online.

Event organizer and Always Aim High Events Director, Tim Lloyd, is delighted by the addition of the Rugby races to the company’s event roster and also thinks the route is a stand out reason why any runner should take part.

“The Rugby Half Marathon and fun run is going to be a fantastic race. Location is always the main consideration for us when setting up an event and Rugby couldn’t be a more fantastic choice,” he said.

“The half marathon race will start in the beautiful Caldecott Park and will finish in the Rec by Bruce Williams Way. The route will take the runners out through the idyllic towns of Barby and Kilsby and back on some of the most beautiful roads and views Warwickshire has to offer.

“Not only is the route very beautiful but it is also incredibly quick and we are looking forward to seeing a lot of people come and break their PB’s come next July.”

Tim Lloyd continued, “The 5km fun run is set to be a very popular choice especially after it has been recently announced that the Rugby Race for Life will be cancelled for 2015.”

Lloyd is delighted that the Rugby Half Marathon will offer a 5km fun run and talks about how he wants to keep strong links with Cancer Research.

“We are really pleased to be holding a 5km fun run at the Rugby Half Marathon,” he said. “It is really important to us that our events are as all inclusive as possible and it’s great to offer this distance run. It’s a great shame that the Race for Life will not be taking place again because it was such a great thing, not just for Cancer Research but for the town of Rugby as well.

“That’s why we have been in touch with Cancer Research to discuss the race. Anybody who enters the Rugby Half Marathon or the 5km fun run can raise money for Cancer Research (or in fact any other charity or good cause) should they wish. On top of that when people enter the race we will donate a percentage of ticket sales from the fun run directly to Cancer Research and other local charities.”

He continued, “We would also like to say a special thank you to Rugby Town Junior Football Club and Rugby County Council for all their support in helping organise this event. The junior football club is the main partner and will be organising loads of fun activities on the day.”

The race is expected to bring in well over 1000 runners in its first year but it is anticipated that due to its route and location in central England ‘it will quickly become a 2-3 thousand runner event.’

The race is also expected to be very popular because it will be the climax of the Rugby Festival of Culture. The festival, which was first established in 2010 and now welcomes thousands of supporters every year, features a variety of things to see and do including live comedy, live music, poetry, theatre productions and now of course, a half marathon and a 5km fun run.
