Celebrating 25 years: ITU World Cup descends upon Alanya

Celebrating 25 years - ITU World Cup descends upon Alanya in Turkey

After making its World Cup debut to the ITU calendar just last year, Alanya, on Turkey’s central Mediterranean coast (aka the Turkish Riviera), returns for the second time to host the 2015 Alanya ITU Triathlon World Cup.

With only one ITU World Cup event left after this coming weekend, elites will be looking to get as many Olympic qualification points as they can before wrapping up their season. The women kick off the weekend by competing on the Olympic distance course on Saturday, with the men to follow on Sunday.

The race also marks the 25th anniversary for the sport of triathlon in the Turkish city, so the celebrations should be plentiful throughout the event.

Alanya has a strong and important history within ITU and the European Triathlon Union (ETU), having hosted the 2013 European Championships and European Junior and Premium Cup events dating back all the way to 2002.

Last year, the Turkish city was welcomed as a host for the ITU World Cup calendar. The hot and humid conditions deliver a tough race, while the festive atmosphere and beautiful coastline lends itself to a weekend to savour.
