Xtra Mile Events has announced the introduction of a club team cash prize fund of £1,500 for the Eirias Middle Distance+ Triathlon in North Wales on Saturday 26 September.
The prizes will be awarded for the top three aggregated individual times achieved by a club or team, for both male and female teams. The winning male and female teams will receive £400 per team, with £250 awarded to the 2nd team and £100 to the 3rd team.
Based at the new Porth Eirias Watersports Complex in Colwyn Bay The Eirias Middle Distance+ and Standard Distance+ Triathlons return to North Wales for the fourth time this year.
Race Director Simon Hill said “The Eirias Triathlon is recognised as one of the best and most challenging triathlons in the UK and it attracts a top field. Being a Saturday race and now with the introduction of the cash prize fund we are hoping to see more clubs and teams from North Wales, the North West and beyond on the start line.”
He continued, “A stunning sea front venue and transition combined with an epic cycle route in the Welsh hills and a coastal run section make this a must-do race. There is also an abundance of family activities at the venue with the beach, playground and the new Porth Eirias Bistro run by celebrity chef Bryn Williams.”
The start of both races is in the sea at Porth Eirias, with the middle distance+ race incorporating a 1900m swim (2 laps), 106K cycle and 20K run. The standard distance+ race takes place on the same course and includes a 1500m swim, 53K cycle and 10K run. Both races finish at Porth Eirias.
The cycle leg includes the King of the Mountains timed climb at the beginning of each lap and there will be a free tour of the cycle route on the evening before the race (Friday 25 September) for athletes and their families.
Registration to The Eirias Triathlon is open at xtramileevents.com/events with individual entry fees of £90 for the middle distance and £65 for the standard distance race. Team relay entries are available for £125 or £75 respectively. The first wave of the Eirias Middle Distance + Triathlon starts at 08:00 BST and the Standard Distance + Triathlon starts at 09:00. Entries close on 16 September 2015 or when sold out.
