Hot on the heels of confirming that its high-end carbon forks and frames will be CT-scanned, Eddy Merckx Cycles is adding a new string to its bow. The EM525 is a new top-of-the-line model from Eddy Merckx Cycles and is available in a Performance (above) and an Endurance version (below), so that riders can choose the geometry they prefer. In addition, this new top-end bike has been exclusively fitted with disc brakes.
All EM525 forks and frames will be CT-scanned. In this way, Eddy Merckx Cycles seeks to demonstrate its commitment to quality and the reason why the company can offer a ‘Strict Lifetime Warranty’ on all bikes in its range.
CT scans (Computed Tomography, using X-ray technology) of the forks and frames will be carried out during both the R&D (Research & Development) and QC (Quality Control) phases.
Eddy Merckx Cycles is also looking to address the issue of loss of stiffness with large frame sizes. As the company points out, constant steering stiffness is not only a requirement for every frame, but also for every size of frame.
To address this issue, Eddy Merckx Cycles adjusts the tapering of the EM525 forks to match the size. This is seen as particularly important for the larger frame sizes to avoid the stiffness value reducing as the size of the frame increases.
Eddy Merckx Cycles has also developed its Safe Compression Mount especially for the EM525. The company goes on to point out that this exclusive system ensures that the stem fits even better onto the steering tube – ‘ideal for competitive riders who generate enormous forces on their frame and head tube.’
In addition, the EM525 High Strength Crown aims to ensure an easy transfer at the top of the fork (from the fork crown to the fork tube). ‘This unique design avoids weak spots and loss of stiffness.’
Every bike release by Eddy Merckx Cycles is intended as ‘a tribute to the rich heritage created by the greatest racing cyclist of all time.’ The rich history of man and bicycle is thereby ‘linked in a contemporary and self-perpetuating way to the promising future of the brand.’
