Governor of Colorado to Keynote Industry Breakfast at Interbike

Interbike Show 2014

Interbike, the largest bicycle industry trade show in North America, has announced that John W Hickenlooper, Governor of Colorado, will keynote the annual Interbike Industry Breakfast on Wednesday 16 September at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hickenlooper will deliver an ‘inspirational message highlighting bicycling successes from across Colorado, and what individual communities need to do to promote cycling safety, participation and business.’

“Governor Hickenlooper knows that bikes make Colorado better,” said PeopleForBikes President Tim Blumenthal. “Whether it’s launching one of the nation’s first bike-sharing systems in Denver, promoting a big recreational bike ride on the eastern plains, improving bike networks statewide, or investing in smart tourism promotion, he’s steadily leading our state towards the top.”

Hickenlooper is a staunch supporter of the bicycle industry and has challenged other states to step up their bicycling-related programs and projects to model Colorado. His leadership for a bicycle-friendly state is unprecedented, first as mayor of Denver and now as Colorado’s governor.

As mayor he embraced one of the first bike-sharing programs in the US (43 cities have since followed) and he empowered miles of bike paths, bike lanes and general infrastructure to help make Denver a welcoming city for cyclists.

As governor, his leadership celebrated rides such as the Pedal to the Plains, Ride the Rockies, and the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, which have garnered worldwide attention and generated millions in revenue for the state. Hickenlooper also helped set the tone that cycling is part of Colorado’s business and community culture by creating working groups to attract more outdoor recreation and bicycling business.

His administration is embracing mountain biking, mountain bike parks, Safe Routes to School programs and cycling recreational tourism.

Sponsored by PeopleForBikes, the National Bicycle Dealers Association and the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association, the Interbike Industry Breakfast will take place at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in the South Pacific Ballroom at 07:30. This is a first-come, first-served event with a limited number of seats available to Interbike attendees. Only 700 attendees will be allowed in – attendees interested in being at this event should plan to arrive as early as possible.

Interbike returns to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center beginning with OutDoor Demo in Boulder City, Nevada on 14-15 September 2015, followed by the Interbike Expo on 16-18 September 2015.

Interbike is the largest bicycle trade event in North America, bringing together manufacturers, retailers, industry advocates and media to conduct the business of cycling. Established in 1982, the show gathers more than 1,200 cycling-related brands, over 25,000 total attendees annually and is considered one of the most important global trade events for the bicycle industry.
