Henley Classic to feature dazzling laser show

Swimmers at this year’s Henley Classic will again be treated to a dazzling laser show welcoming them to their impending early morning endeavours.

One of the most striking features of this popular open water swimming event is the dead-straight nature of the course marked-out by the traditional wooden booms of the Henley Royal Regatta rowing course. The protective booms make for a fast event at the elite end of the performance spectrum, and lend a sense of security to those who might prefer something a little more sedate.

Co-founder Jeremy Laming said of the laser “Swimmers need to start arriving for registration from around 02:00 BST, so it’s a great way to get them down to the river early, and what better way to show them the task in hand than a laser beaming down the middle of the river. The straight nature of the course lends itself to some spectacular perspectives, and having the course lit-up is an unforgettable sight.”

He went on to say that this year new open water swimming brand Selkie Swim Co were the proud sponsors of the laser, “We’ve partnered with Selkie Swim Co to sponsor the laser and to provide our event memorabilia kit.”

Spectators need to be up early to catch a glimpse of this enigmatic light show; the first swimmers start at 04:30 BST, by which point the early morning light will have all-but obliterated the spectacle.
