Immediate Media seeks Digital Editor at 220 Triathlon

Applications for a Digital Editor role at 220 Triathlon are nearly closing, with the deadline for submissions on Thursday 3 September.

The Digital Editor is responsible for managing the 220 online community, producing daily news, reviews and comment for the website, curating magazine content from the rest of the editorial team as well as producing his or her own copy and commissioning work from external writers.

The 220 Triathlon Digital Editor’s goal is to substantially increase page views and unique users to the site, growing the brand’s digital footprint and using web analysis tools to ‘move the needle on audience share’. The Digital Editor is also responsible for managing the team’s social media footprint on Facebook, Twitter and other platforms and working closely with 220 Triathlon’s partner on the my-Tri community section of the site.

Accountabilities:

  • Evaluate the site’s performance against key performance indicators, monitoring visitor statistics, feedback and participation. Have a keen grasp of SEO and employ its principles. Regularly use reporting tools to feed back the site’s performance stats to the Publisher and Editor.
  • Substantially increase page views and unique users to the site, growing the brand’s digital footprint and achieving 220’s goal of making the site the market leader.
  • Grow Twitter and Facebook followings and encourage interaction within the community that is relevant and on-brand.
  • Write online articles and adapt existing print articles for the web. Generate content around key events and ensure the 220 site is providing ‘the best, most comprehensive content in the market.’ Commission unique content from external sources as well as managing blogs, forums and other forms of user-generated content
  • Work closely with the editorial team to make sure the digital content produced is the best in the market – comprehensive, timely and exciting to our users. Hold regular digital update meetings to keep the team up to speed and make sure they have the skills they need.
  • Work closely with the Editor to develop digital KPIs and regularly report back on progress.
  • Share knowledge with the Editor and all members of the team on any market or subject-specific developments. Share industry/product news and new contacts with the team.
  • Repurpose content into digital features that will best suit format and audience (eg product round ups)
  • Work with the team to generate video content where appropriate
  • Report on key events and races in the triathlon scene as they happen, making sure that 220 has ‘the latest news and race reports online first.’ Use social media to create real-time content at key events.
  • Devise an online workflow system and work closely with the 220 team to put this in place. Instigate regular web meetings to keep the team engaged and involved with the brand’s digital side. Ensure good communication with the editorial team and where needed, help develop their understanding of new technology and processes.
  • Continually update, manage and develop the brand’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. Encourage participation through real-time polls and community-orientated content information.
  • Ensure the tone and writing style of all digital content/interaction is right for the 220 Triathlon audience, making sure the voice is consistent with the brand. Know and understand the audience and keep up to date with their needs/interests.
  • Manage the website’s forum and grow the number of users. Remove spam where necessary.
  • Work closely with 220 Triathlon’s partner on the MyTri section of the website. Update and promote the MyTri Challenge.
  • Create and approve the weekly newsletter. Develop ways to grow the number of subscribers and clickthroughs and look for opportunities for new newsletter ideas (eg ‘Training Tuesdays’ etc).
  • Manage the regular admin/updates needed on the site, for example uploading competitions, next month page etc. Make sure the race calendar is kept up to date.
  • Liaise with web designers and web developers where necessary.
  • Control the web budget.
  • Understand the user experience, accessibility and information architecture.
  • Design and develop digital campaigns to achieve brand objectives.
  • Maintain PR contacts and gaining new ones whenever possible.

Competencies:

  • A proven track record in digital, with experience of building traffic and growing an audience online.
  • Experience in generating and producing great original content, along with real experience and understanding of social media and experience in managing online communities or forums.
  • Hands-on experience in ‘achieving big results with limited resources’. Experience in working alongside print editorial teams would be an advantage.
  • Familiar with the challenges of Content Management Systems, publishing to deadline, understanding the challenges of SEO and hitting demanding traffic targets.
  • A passion for sport and fitness, triathlon in particular, would be an advantage.
