The IRONMAN Foundation Community Fund will distribute more than US$55,000 in grant funding to initiatives and groups in the greater St George area in conjunction with the IRONMAN 70.3 St George triathlon taking place on Saturday 2 May 2015 in southwest Utah.
The IRONMAN Foundation Community Fund provides community and volunteer grant opportunities to non-profit organizations where US IRONMAN events are held. With the 2015 donations from the IRONMAN Foundation, nearly US$275,000 has been given since the first IRONMAN event in St George.
In 2015, The IRONMAN Foundation will provide more than US$1.5 million to support the needs of IRONMAN race communities across North America.
Community grants
The IRONMAN Foundation’s Community Fund will provide a total of US$42,200 in community grants which are given to local non-profit beneficiaries that will use the funds toward initiatives to better the area.
“Grant funding is one way that The IRONMAN Foundation leaves a lasting legacy in the communities where IRONMAN races take place,” said Dave Deschenes, Executive Director of The IRONMAN Foundation. “We are thrilled to support the greater St. George community with these community grant awards.”
All community grant recipients will be announced in the IRONMAN Village in the Town Square on Thursday 30 April and Friday 1 May 2015.
Beneficiaries of those 2015 grants are listed below:
- DOVE Center – a US$10,000 grant will be given to allow its program to increase community awareness and prevention education in an effort to reduce incidents of domestic violence and sexual assault, thus increasing safety in the community.
- Snow Canyon State Park – a US$10,000 grant awarded to fund the removal of speed bumps and installation of speed humps.
- Girls on the Run of Southern Utah – a US$7,200 grant will be awarded to give 30 under-served girls the opportunity to learn essential life skills and core values for living an emotionally healthy and physically active lifestyle.
- Southern Utah Bicycle Alliance – a US$6,500 grant will be awarded to do a demonstration project and correct at least one problem curb-cut in each of five major local cities.
- Utah Foster Care Foundation – a US$5,000 grant will be awarded to support the Wishing Well program that provides children in foster care with enrichment activities and talent and skill development to improve their self-esteem and help ‘normalize’ their foster care experience.
- Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah – a US$2,500 grant will be awarded to provide computer hardware and software and power tools to improve technology and enhance the ability to manage data and track volunteers, and construct and repair properties for low-income families.
- BOOYAH Foundation – a US$1,000 grant will be awarded to update a website in order to increase reach and access to families impacted by tragedy and in need of assistance.
Volunteer grants
The IRONMAN Foundation’s Community Fund will also provide US$15,000 in grant donations to local non-profit groups that have a volunteerism component to their organizations.
