More youngsters than ever before are taking part in the 2015 edition of IRONKIDS Wales on Saturday 12 September, kicking off the IRONMAN Wales weekend.
With almost 1,000 kids already signed up for the junior event it will be the biggest event to date and organisers expect the remaining places to be sold out before race week.
IRONKIDS is open to children aged between 3 and 14 and involves running a course of between 500m and 1.5K according to age. The run route takes place in and around the town centre with all participants crossing the finish line on The Esplanade under the iconic IRONMAN finish arch.
The event, which is now in its fourth year, has proved a popular move since organisers changed the original splash / run format, encouraging as many kids to be part of the IRONMAN weekend of racing. Entries are expected to hit a record 1,250 up 40% on last year’s IRONKIDS event in Wales.
The emphasis is very much on having fun and encouraging kids to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle, with a view to inspiring them to take part in sport and triathlon in the future. Participants aren’t therefore timed; however all receive a t-shirt and medal.
