London Triathlon 2014

IMG has confirmed that the London Triathlon has been shortlisted for the BT Sport Industry Awards 2015, in the Participation Event of the Year category, Sponsored by Robertson Taylor W&P Longreach.

The London Triathlon continues to be the ‘largest mass participation event of its kind, in the world,’ attracting 13,000 participants and more than 30,000 spectators each year. Supporting the triathlon industry by facilitating the introduction of new participants into the triathlon sector, a significant 46.9% of London Triathlon participants in 2014 were first time triathletes.

With the British Super Series finale held at London Triathlon, the event draws a strong elite field every year and following the recent announcement that the British Elite Standard Distance Championships will be held at the 2015 event, the calibre of athletes on display will only continue to grow.

The event is also renowned for its fundraising capabilities and raised £1.5m alone in 2014, the highest in its history. The last edition also saw 124 charities taking part – which, according to IMG, is the most number of charities represented amongst the triathlon event sector in 2014.

With an exceptionally high quality of submissions and entries spanning 20 sports, The BT Sport Industry Awards saw 83 key industry figures complete 36 hours of extensive judging before declaring the 2015 shortlist. Entries will now go forward for consideration by the main Judging Panel, who will decide the winners for each category, to be announced at the BT Sports Industry Awards ceremony on 30 April 2015.

James Robinson, Managing Director of event organiser IMG Challenger World said “It’s an honour to see London Triathlon shortlisted for these prestigious awards, amongst a strong roll call of nominees. The event continues to grow year on year and it’s a great achievement to have the hard work and dedication of our many staff and volunteers recognised by some of the most influential people in the sports industry.”
