No likey, no lighty! New Aphotic goggles from HUUB

HUUB Aphotic - black-red

Derby, UK-based wetsuit and apparel specialist HUUB has unveiled its new ‘photo-chromatic’ goggle – Aphotic (meaning, without light). Continuing its mantra of ‘Research-Science & Reality’, the ever-expanding line of HUUB products has been designed to ‘ensure a product that delivers performance to meet the needs of the modern triathlete and swimmer.’

This latest addition further strengthens the line of wetsuits, tri clothing and accessories from one of the UK’s fastest growing, and internationally renowned, multisport companies.

HUUB notes that ‘possibly the most important piece of equipment come race day are your swim goggles.’ A piece of equipment so many triathletes and open water swimmers may often take for granted, yet without them, all of our preparation and training is wasted. According to HUUB, it’s time to take your goggles seriously, and really understand what is needed on race day.

In its release heralding the new HUUB Aphotic goggles, the company continues… ‘Wouldn’t it be great if most events started in the middle of the day, the sun high, everyone warm and the light as good as it can be. Sadly the length of events and road closure timings mean a 7am start isn’t out of the ordinary, and as we all know the light 30 minutes after the gun goes off is very different and even more so as the morning progresses.’

‘Aphotic from HUUB is the company’s first swim goggle that gets darker or lighter through photo-chromatic technology ‘during the race without you even noticing’. A self regulating lens in the goggles delivers the comfort and vision needed to maximise sighting and assist visibility during the swim.

Photo-chromatic poly carbonate clarity of vision aids sighting and allows the swimmer/triathlete to move around obstacles and other swimmers even when swimming into the sun, or with a back to the sun. According to HUUB, the lenses adjust in response to light and take only 160 seconds to go from clear to dark ‘delivering ultimate performance for every turn of every buoy.’

Special patented photochromic dyes cause the lens to activate, or darken, when exposed to ultraviolet rays from sunlight. When the UV light diminishes, the lenses fade back. As light conditions change, the level of tint adjusts, offering the right tint at the right time.

Available in two colours at launch, the Aphotic swim goggle is positioned as the first step from HUUB to ‘goggle perfection’ suitable for use indoors and outdoors and in any light condition. Designed to fit the face perfectly with a measured density of silicon and TPR, the goggles aim to create a perfect fit and feather-light feel ‘even on the most interesting of facial profiles’.

HUUB Aphotic swim goggles comes complete with a protective clam shell case: RRP £39.99.

HUUB was founded in 2011 as ‘a result of wanting to bring a new and proven product to market for differing types of swimmers and triathletes’. Based in Derby in the UK, the company offers its products in different buoyancies, recognising different swim types and styles.

HUUB, the company, is supported in its research efforts by Huub Toussaint, who is regarded as one of the world’s leading professors of human movement through water, and swim coaching specialist Swim-Smooth. Over the years Swim-Smooth has analysed and assisted more swimmers than any other triathlon swim coaching organisation.
