RAGBRAI XLIII to celebrate second annual PeopleForBikes Day

National US bike organization PeopleForBikes is partnering with the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) for the second year in a row. The 43rd annual RAGBRAI has named 23 July 2015 as ‘PeopleForBikes Day’, building on the success of 2014’s inaugural PeopleForBikes Day.

On PeopleForBikes Day, the ride will travel from Hiawatha to Iowa River Landing/Coralville. The news was released over the weekend at RAGBRAI’s annual route announcement party.

“RAGBRAI is a celebration of so many of the great things about bicycling — the camaraderie, the beauty of the ride, and the connection with local businesses,” said Tim Blumenthal, President of PeopleForBikes. “It’s great to be a part of this famous, well-organized event and experience all the enthusiasm Iowa has for bicycling.”

RAGBRAI is one of the largest and most famous bike rides in the US. The seven-day ride across Iowa begins in Western Iowa on the Missouri River and ends in Eastern Iowa on the Mississippi River. The ride route changes each year.

RAGBRAI draws tens of thousands of riders, who are every age, size, shape and ability, and who ride bikes, trikes, tandems, recumbents, unicycles and everything in between.

“RAGBRAI is honoured to be helping PeopleforBikes make bicycling better in Iowa and throughout our great country,” said RAGBRAI Director, TJ Juskiewicz. “We are looking forward to the return of PeopleforBikes Day on RAGBRAI XLIII!”

Last year, the Iowa Bicycle Coalition encouraged its members to sign up to be PeopleForBikes members, garnering more than 8,000 new supporters for the national movement. PeopleForBikes also donated US$10,000 to the Iowa Bicycle Coalition for the great work the organization does to improve bicycling in Iowa.

“We are proud to have PeopleForBikes involved in Iowa,” said Mark Wyatt, Director of the Iowa Bicycle Coalition. “They are a great partner working to make Iowa a better place for bicycling.”

PeopleForBikes is a movement to make riding better for everyone. The organisation is uniting millions of individuals, thousands of businesses and hundreds of communities to improve bicycling.
