Run-Fast Sports Management, the London-based athlete management agency, has announced plans for a 10-day training holiday in Ethiopia to coincide with the staging of the Great Ethiopian Run 10K race on 22 November 2015.
The tour which runs from Friday 13 November to Monday 23 November 2015 is open to endurance athletes of all abilities keen to visit one of the world’s great running capitals and to participate in Africa’s biggest road race, which last year had more than 30,000 participants.
One of last year’s participants was Alastair Brownlee, who used the trip to start his winter preparation, running in some of the high-altitude locations used by many of Ethiopia’s top runners and swimming in the 50m outdoor pools in Addis Ababa.
Peter McHugh, MD of Run-Fast, explained “There is no better way for British distance runners to get a flavour of Ethiopia’s passion for running than to take part in this race, and then to see Ethiopian runners in action in their natural training venues.”
Twelve places are available for the tour which will be led by Run-Fast staff Tom Payn and Hannah Walker, both of whom have spent long periods training in East Africa. Former British international athlete Richard Nerurkar who was General Manager of Great Ethiopian Run for nine years will also be joining the group at their training base at Yaya Athlete Village on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.
As well as celebrating its 15th edition, this year’s Great Ethiopian Run 10K will have the added bonus of seeing its race founder Haile Gebrselassie take part in the race. Fourteen years after he won the race’s first edition in November 2001, Haile has said that this will be his ‘local farewell’ to running for his own public.
As part of their itinerary, the Run-Fast tour group will also get chance to meet Haile a few days before the race.
