Tongyeong to finish 2015 ITU World Cup season

Tongyeong ITU World Cup 2014

After eight months of racing covering eight host cities from all across the globe, the ITU World Cup circuit descends upon its final destination in Korea this weekend for the 2015 Tongyeong ITU Triathlon World Cup. As the last race of the ITU season, on Saturday 24 October, athletes have one last chance to gain Olympic qualification points to add to their 2015 tally.

This race marks the tenth year Tongyeong has hosted an ITU Triathlon World Cup, with the first taking place in 2003. The South Korean port town hosted the first ITU World Triathlon series in 2009. The city was also home to the ITU Asian Cup in 2005 and 2006. This year, Tongyeong continues its rich triathlon tradition as the eighth and final stop on the World Cup circuit. The course is laid out over a port and includes two testing hills before finishing off on a fast and flat run course.

  • Swim – 1500m – The athletes will begin the day with a pontoon start into the ocean for a two-lap swim. Competitors must exit after the first lap on the pontoon to dive back in for the second lap.
  • Bike – 40K – Athletes will bike five laps, which includes two steep hills on each lap.
  • Run – 10K – The day will finish with a flat and furious four-lap push for the finish.
