The Wine Country Half Marathon Series, sponsored by Newton Running and produced by Destination Races, makes its next stop in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada on Sunday 6 September. The Kelowna Wine Country Half Marathon is the only event in the popular series produced by Destination Races held outside of the United States.
This fast and scenic course takes place in the emerging Okanagan Valley wine region surrounding Okanagan Lake and the city of Kelowna. Starting at the East Bench above Kelowna at The Vibrant Vine with views of the lake and downtown, the course runs past vineyards and fruit orchards before dropping down to Mission Creek Greenway and the shoreline of Okanagan Lake, before finishing in expansive Waterfront Park.
Registration is still open for the half marathon. In addition, a 2-person relay is offered, allowing two runners to split the 13.1-mile distance. The first section of the course is 6.1 miles and the second is 7.0 miles. Runners and relay teams must be able to complete the 21.1K course in 3 hours, 30 minutes.
On Saturday 5 September, the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort & Conference Center hosts the Race Expo, which is where runners can pick up their race packets and shirts, sample products and meet exhibitors and sponsors, shop for race apparel, and attend informational seminars.
The post race-race celebration begins at Destination Races’ signature Wine & Music Festival in Waterfront Park along Lake Okanagan, presented by Alaska Airlines. Many of Kelowna’s wineries will be pouring in the festival area, adjacent to the finish line and beach.
Partnered wineries include House of Rose Winery, Living Water Organic Vineyard, Mission Hill Family Estate, Quails Gate, Sandhill Winery, St Hubertus Estate Winery and The Vibrant Vine. The Wine & Music Festival will also feature an awards ceremony, exhibitors, food and a live band.
Participants have a unique opportunity to interact with Destination Races’ series sponsors, including Newton Running as the series Presenting Sponsor, Alaska Airlines as Presenting Sponsor of the Wine and Music Festival, Fitbit as the market leader in connected health and fitness, CamelBak hydration systems, GU Energy Labs athlete nutrition and SOLS’ custom 3D printed insoles.
Athletes can also fly Alaska Airlines, Official Airline of Destination Races, and save 10% on flights to the race.
