Women For Tri unveils grant and scholarship programs

Women For Tri - club grants and scholarships

Women For Tri, the initiative supported by IRONMAN and Life Time, has launched two programs to support female triathletes – the 2016 Women For Tri Triathlon Club Grant and Collegiate Scholarship Programs.

Applications for both programs are now being accepted, with the first recipients notified by 31 December.

“The Women For Tri initiative was started to help further female participation in the sport of triathlon – while also providing a platform for female triathletes to share, educate and learn,” said Andrew Messick, Chief Executive Officer for IRONMAN.

“We are thrilled to kick off the Women For Tri Triathlon Club Grant and Collegiate Scholarship Programs. This is the first actionable step Women For Tri is taking towards increasing female participation and we are excited to provide these scholarship and grants to help fund female triathletes at all stages and abilities.”

To help fuel increased funds of the grants and scholarships, exclusive Women For Tri merchandise is now available at www.ironmanstore.com/women-for-tri with 100% of all net proceeds dedicated to funding these programs.

“Our goal is to unite and empower female athletes of all ages and fitness levels by breaking down key barriers to entry in the sport and helping more women accomplish their fitness goals in a sport that continues to thrive internationally,” said Moira Horan, Women For Tri Board Member and founder of the Jersey Girl StayStrong Multisport Club.

Women For Tri 2016 Triathlon Club Grant Program
The Triathlon Club Grant Program has been established to support local triathlon clubs as they develop programming and activities to increase female participation in triathlon.

The Women For Tri Board of Advisors will award two rounds of grants up to US$2,500 per club in 2016. Clubs can allocate funds towards strengthening training clinics and recruitment programs, providing educational seminars/lectures and hosting networking events/social gatherings.

The first round of applications must be submitted by 31 October 2015, and the second round of applications are due by 30 April 2016. Eligibility extends to all formally organized triathlon clubs.

Women For Tri 2016 Collegiate Scholarship Program
The Collegiate Scholarship program is designed to assist female collegiate triathletes as they develop within the sport. The Women For Tri Board of Advisors will award scholarships to full-time undergraduate/graduate school students who are active members of their respective collegiate triathlon team.

Five scholarships in the amount of US$5,000 each will be distributed, with funds going directly to the students’ collegiate triathlon teams. The collegiate team administrator will provide funds to scholarship recipients for approved purposes including purchasing gear, hiring a private coach, offsetting tuition or school fees, etc.

Scholarships will be awarded once for the 2015-2016 academic year and applications must be submitted by 30 November 2015.

Women For Tri, an initiative launched by IRONMAN and Life Time in 2015, works to increase female participation at all levels of triathlon. The project seeks to ‘identify and diminish primary barriers to entry and mobilize triathlon advocates to encourage and engage female athletes across all race distances and representing all athletic abilities.’
