The organizers of the 12th annual XTERRA South Arica Championship race, to be held just outside of Cape Town in Grabouw on 22 February 2015, have added an additional Rand 80,000 (US$6.900) to the overall prize purse.
The increase brings the cash equivalent to more than US$20,000, with roughly US$3,500 going to the men’s and women’s winners. The purse pays all the way down to the top 20 men and women, making it an attractive proposition for both local and international elites.
To give the event its full title, the annual XTERRA South Arica Championship race taking place at the Totalsports XTERRA Grabouw event is one of the largest XTERRA races in the world. It sees over two thousand XTERRA athletes contending for the coveted title of SA Champion and numerous age group qualification slots for the XTERRA World Championship held annually in October in Maui.
“Fantastic courses, exceptionally well organized, lots of TV coverage (good for sponsorship) and I think – because of aforementioned – that South Africa has become an XTERRA Mecca – the ‘must-do’ XTERRA on the global series,” said 5-time XTERRA SA Champion and hometown hero Conrad ‘the Caveman’ Stoltz.
