2017 Escape from Alcatraz Tri unveils Build Your Own Race Bag program

Escape from Alcatraz - ferry swim start jump

For the first time ever, the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon will offer its racers the chance to build their own race bag according to race producer IMG, a global leader in sports, events, media and fashion.

This all-new, personalized experience will offer a selection of premium bags and merchandise for participants, allowing each racer to tailor race bags to fit their individual needs.

The 2017 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon is set to take place in San Francisco on Sunday 11 June 2017.

“We are thrilled to bring the Build Your Own Race Bag program to the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon this year, an industry first,” said James Leitz, Senior Vice President, IMG. “To celebrate their Escape from Alcatraz experience, we want to provide our athletes with something special and unique, from the time they register to the moment they cross the finish line.”

Using a customized digital platform, athletes will choose between one of two Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon branded bags, an item of headwear, and three additional high-quality, branded bonus items from a selection, including arm sleeves, a bike bento box, socks, a waterproof phone case, a head lamp, gloves and more. The custom bags will be available at athlete packet pickup on 10 June 2017.

Top triathletes from around the world will take over the streets and waters of San Francisco for the 2017 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Showcasing the beauty of San Francisco, triathletes will embark on a gruelling 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shoreline of Marina Green, an 18 mile twisting bike ride through the Presidio, and an eight mile trail run out to Baker Beach and up the infamous 400-plus step Sand Ladder.

Fans can experience the excitement at the Marina Green, where the swim ends and the athlete transition area and finish line are easily visible.

This ‘bucket list triathlon’ will draw more than 2,000 racers from around the world, including 2016 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champion Joe Maloy.
