Anglesey Sandman 2016 sells out for third consecutive year

Anglesey Sandman Triathlon - swim

The Anglesey Sandman Triathlon powered by Suunto, and organised by Always Aim High Events, has sold out for the third successive year, with the triathlon set to bring the organiser’s Adventure Triathlon Series 2016 to a full-capacity conclusion in September.

The Sandman Triathlon will attract over 1,000 competitors, ‘along with thousands more spectators’, to Newborough Forest in North Wales. Taking place on 17-18 September, the race weekend includes distances for all abilities as well being the final round of the Always Aim High Events organised Adventure Triathlon Series.

Featuring a ‘Rio style start’ for the swim at the blue flag Llanddwyn Beach, competitors will experience a swim in the beach’s clear waters under the watchful gaze of the Snowdonia National Park and Llyn Peninsula. This is followed by a cycle route along the twisting and undulating country lanes around Anglesey. The triathlon is finished off with a sandy trail run through Newborough Forest with a final stretch and finish line back on Llanddwyn Beach.

Saturday 17 September sees the mini sprint and sprint distance triathlons take place, as well as the first half of the Sandman Weekender challenge, whereby competitors take part in racing on Saturday and Sunday.

Also taking place on the Saturday is the Sandman Junior Triathlon 2016. This event showcases the triathletes of the future in five different age groups from 8 to 16.

On Sunday 18 September, the full distance triathlon takes place, this features a 1,000m swim, 60km cycle and is rounded off with a 10km trail run. This is also the final half of the Sandman Weekender.

Sunday will see the winners of the full and Weekender distances crowned, along with the winners of the overall Adventure Triathlon Series. The series started in May with the Snowdonia Slateman Triathlon and less than two seconds separates first place and second place in the standings going into the Sandman weekend.

Prizes will be given to the top five finishers overall in each distance and the top three in each age category throughout the weekend, with prizes donated by event sponsors such as Suunto, Aqua Sphere, Salomon, Superfeet and more.
