The TRIPrague event started in 2015 as ‘the biggest and most spectacular triathlon race in the Czech Republic’. Now, for 2017 TRIPrague is becoming part of Challenge Family international series of triathlons with a change of event name to Challenge Prague. The race will be held on 29 July 2017.
The historical center of Prague should be a draw for triathletes from across Europe and further afield. At Challenge Prague, athletes will enjoy a race site close to Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and the National Theatre or Vyšehrad.
Challenge Family is positioned as ‘the fastest growing global long distance triathlon series’, now with full and half distance triathlons in 26 countries. Challenge Family adds that it is ‘changing the face of long distance racing around the world… Featuring spectacular courses in iconic destinations.’
Challenge Family events focus on ‘delivering the race of a lifetime to athletes of all ages and abilities’. As a part of Challenge Family, Prague now extends the organisation’s club of iconic race locations, which includes Venice, Italy; Melbourne, Australia; Lisboa, Portugal; Florianapolis, Brazil and more.
Zibi Szlufcik, CEO of Challenge Family welcomed TRIPRague into the international series. He said, “We at Challenge Family are extremely proud and happy to welcome Challenge Prague into our series. As one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Prague provides athletes with endless athletic and cultural opportunities.
“The welcoming nature of Czech people is well known and athletes will have a fantastic race experience. With the active support of [the Czech Republic’s] National Triathlon Federation, the city and tourism bodies, this race will quickly become a ‘must do’ race.”
The Prague Municipality and Central Bohemian Region are the host regions of Challenge Prague.
“I am really happy and excited that after two years of effort and hard work our dreams finally came true and TRIPrague will become a part of the Challenge Family series,” said Lenka Ková?ová, President of the Czech Triathlon Association and a member of event organising team.
She added, “I would like to thank everyone who participated in [TRIPrague] and I wish a good luck to the entire organizing team so [Challenge Prague] race can be successful and help to start a triathlon boom in the Czech Republic.”
As a part of Challenge Family, Challenge Prague enters a new phase in 2017. Unlike previous years the course will be modified so that the whole race will be ‘faster but also more attractive and safe’. The swim and cycling courses will go through significant changes, while the run course will be fully closed for traffic. As in previous years, participants can choose from several categories. The event kicks off with Challenge Junior for budding triathletes aged 8 to 15, and culminates with the flagship Challenge Prague half distance race – 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike and 21 km run.
For those who just want to try a shorter version of triathlon race, a CHALLENGETRY-ATHLON with its 0.38 km swim, 18 km bike and 4.2 km run is available. It is also possible to participate in Challenge Prague and CHALLENGETRY-ATHLON as part of a three-member relay with a team of friends, family members or colleagues, so all levels of participation is encouraged.
