The IRONMAN Foundation (IMF) and the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation (FHSPSF) have partnered to provide US$125,000 in grant funding for first responder groups in six communities where IRONMAN races take place.
These grants, awarded for the purchase of critical, life-saving equipment, will be distributed at IRONMAN events taking place between 2 April and 9 October 2016. Now in its third year of partnership, FHSPSF and IMF have previously awarded US$197,577 worth of equipment to 15 first-responder organizations in nine IRONMAN race communities.
“We’re so fortunate at IRONMAN to work with an elite group of first responders in each of our race communities, as they are instrumental in ensuring the health and safety of our athletes,” said Christine Perkins, Community Relations Manager of IMF.
“This partnership with the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation allows us to give back to the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for us each day by giving them the tools that they need to save lives.”
One featured grant recipient from 2015 was the Madison Police Department, which received a grant worth US$18,700 to purchase Air-Purifying respirators that would allow their officers to operate more effectively for longer periods of time in critical situations.
“The Madison Police Department greatly appreciates the support received from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and The IRONMAN Foundation,” said Police Captain Victor Wahl. “The safety equipment provided has protected officers responding into hazardous environments and has enabled us to better serve the public.”

Grant awards through the FHSPSF/IMF partnership will range in size from US$10,000 to US$20,000, with the maximum award capped at US$20,000 per organization.
Funds will be awarded to eligible groups in communities where the following IRONMAN events take place: IRONMAN 70.3 California; IRONMAN 70.3 Muncie; IRONMAN 70.3 Syracuse; IRONMAN Wisconsin; IRONMAN Maryland, and IRONMAN Louisville presented by Norton Sports Health.
