After announcing new races in Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Finland, the Challenge Family Nordic team, through local partner firm RaceMakers, is now ready to present the Challenge Nordic Championships, offering both the half and full distance.
This year, on 12 June, the host for the full distance championship will be Challenge Billund-Herning; while the half distance Nordic championship will be hosted by Challenge Iceland on 23 July.
Besides earning the bragging rights of being the Nordic Champion, the Challenge Nordic team add they they ‘are about to make the coolest t-shirts and the most extraordinary trophies for all the winners, including all age groupers.’ The team added, ‘If you are lucky enough to win as an age-grouper you will win a free slot to any of the other Nordic races.’
“We are very excited to host the first Nordic Championship in Iceland,” said Pétur Einarsson, Event Director at Challenge Iceland. “Triathlon is a fast growing sport in the world, and Iceland is a unique destination for such a race combining a beautiful course and stunning sightseeing. The race is only 40min from the capital Reykjavik. Iceland is a 3 hours flight from Europe and 5 hours from the East Coast of the US.”
“This has been on the drawing board for a while and we are very pleased to finally present it,” said Claus Vesterby, CEO RaceMakers & Event Director of Challenge Denmark.
He continued, “Our main objective for the Nordic Championships is to bind the Nordic countries closer together and create a unity of really great races. We don’t restrict the participants entering the Nordic Championships – so everybody, regardless of nationality, can participate with hopes of becoming Nordic Champion.”
RaceMakers is aiming to strengthen and ensure the future of Challenge Denmark, and at the same time increase the number of international competitions in its portfolio. RaceMakers was founded by the Event Director of Challenge Denmark, Claus Vesterby, and the owner of online multisport retailer triudstyr.dk, Jacob Sonne-Schmidt.
RaceMakers is based in the Danish city of Herning on the Jutland peninsula. It is responsible for the daily operation of Challenge Nordic events, and ‘a number of other triathlon related activities.’ RaceMakers adds that one of the most significant parts of the new company will be selling race supplies and merchandise to other Challenge Family events around Europe.
