The expanding TOUGHMAN series has announced another new event, with TOUGHMAN South Carolina now scheduled for 2017. This new race under the TOUGHMAN brand will take place in Greenwood Lake, South Carolina, on 30 September 2017.

A release from the TOUGHMAN team notes that having a footprint in the Southeast US means that athletes from Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina can compete at a range of series events including TOUGHMAN Tennessee and the new TOUGHMAN South Carolina. All TOUGHMAN branded events will have qualifying spots for the New York Championship, which takes place in Stony Point, New York, each September.

The series has expanded to 19 locations in North and South America. More locations and partnerships will shortly be announced for 2017. The confirmed event dates for 2017 are currently as follows:

Richard Izzo at TOUGHMAN said, “The way forward for all independent brands is to join a brand like us, so that as a unit we can give the athletes a standard, safe, great race experience as well as attract major sponsorships to support each race through our increased leverage.”

He continued, “For 2016 we have partnerships with Polar, Orca, Clif Bar, Altra and a worldwide partner for coaching in Trisutto that will attract another type of athlete to our races for 2017. Having a New York Championship event as the goal for racers to qualify to race makes racing a bit more exciting.”

Over 100 age group qualifiers from each race in the series will receive invitations for the TOUGHMAN Half Iron International Championship on 17 September 2017, where they will compete for a cash purse of US$4950. Athletes in the open division will compete for over US$30,000 worth of awards.
