Xtra Mile Events, organiser of the Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth, has announced that a record number of competitors have registered for the event on Sunday 3 July 2016.
With a capacity of 1,000 competitors, Xtra Mile adds that there are now ‘just a few spaces left at this world-class event that takes place in one of the UK’s best-known country estates.’
The Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth is an ETU European Sprint Distance Championship Qualifier and competitors must register with British Triathlon if they are looking to qualify.
Renowned for being a tough event on the UK triathlon calendar, the Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth has also built a following, in part due to its stunning surroundings in the heart of the Peak District. Offering both a sprint and standard distance race, this family-friendly event is billed as ‘the perfect opportunity to combine an iconic race with a day at one of the country’s finest stately homes or a weekend enjoying the magnificent Peaks.’
Race Director Simon Hill said “With just over a week to go until the 2016 Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth, we’re delighted to have almost reached capacity and be set to reach a record-breaking number of competitors. We are only in our third year but the event has grown quickly and become extremely popular among UK triathletes, with good reason.
“Chatsworth provides a magnificent setting for the triathlon, with both the River Derwent and the beautiful Peak District countryside, while for families and friends it makes for a wonderful day out or weekend away.
He continued, “We would encourage anyone still wishing to enter to do so quickly, as there are just a few spaces left now for this iconic triathlon. We look forward to providing a fantastic atmosphere for athletes and spectators on race day, and to welcoming our biggest field yet.”
Macmillan Cancer Support is the official charity partner for the Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth for the third year running. Sponsors of the Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth 2016 include Zone3, Race Force, Clif Bar, TrueStart Coffee and ERDINGER Alkoholfrei.
The sprint distance race incorporates a 750m swim in the river Derwent, which starts from the 18th century bridge and goes out and back in front of Chatsworth House. This is followed by a 20km bike ride in the Peak District countryside. The race finishes with a picturesque 5km run in the expansive parkland, featuring some highlights of the Chatsworth Estate including the famous Hunting Tower and expansive views of the Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown landscape.
The standard distance race consists of a 1000m swim followed by a 39km cycle leg and a 10km run.
The cycle route entails a single loop for both standard and sprint races, taking in some of the most beautiful scenes in the Peak District. Both runs are also a single lap, with an extended section beyond the Hunting Tower for the standard distance athletes who will run past more of Chatsworth’s landmarks.
Xtra Mile adds that spectators are welcome to watch all stages of the event. The best way to watch the swim is by walking along the river bank on the house side of the river, while it is advised to watch cyclists going out past the main house and back in down the main drive. There are a number of paths to watch the run from.
The ERDINGER Alkoholfrei tent will be at the finish again to hand out cold isotonic recovery drinks to finishing triathletes.
Athletes are advised to register for the Peak District Triathlon at Chatworth between 10:00 – 17:00 GMT on Saturday 2 July, to ‘collect their race numbers and disinfect wetsuits’. Alternatively, they can do this at 05:00 on the Sunday morning of the race, but they must contact the Xtra Mile Events office to arrange registration on the morning of the race. ‘Everybody must be ready in time for the pre-race briefing in the transition area at 06:40.’
Registration for the Peak District Triathlon at Chatsworth is currently still open; and entries close on 29 June 2016 or when sold out. Entry costs are from £59 for individual entries or from £72 for team relay entries.
