Taking on the challenge of a triathlon for the first time can be an unnerving experience. With this in mind, at the Shock Absorber WomenOnly Triathlon on Sunday 10 July, a new wave has been introduced for novices who might be nervous ahead of their first multisport experience.
The First-Timer Wave at the event will start separately in a smaller group and consist of a 200m swim, 5.3K bike ride and 2.5K run.
Event organiser Human Race notes that there’ll be plenty of impressive pros taking part in the longer distances to help inspire future triathletes, but taking part in this taster distance will provide an opportunity to get started and no doubt get the triathlon bug.
Whether it’s a long term ambition or to raise money for official charity, Breast Cancer Care, the friendly and sociable atmosphere of the WomenOnly Tri aims to allow each and every competitor the opportunity to get involved.
Kirsty Wilde, Operations Director at Human Race, said “We know that taking on a triathlon or the first time can be intimidating, so this fun and relaxed wave will help settle the nerves. It doesn’t matter what your finish time is or who wins, it’s all about taking part alongside like-minded people.”
Title sponsor, Shock Absorber is the UK’s leading sports bra brand, celebrating 20 years of providing sports bra support and will be on hand to offer advice.
Shock Absorber reminds athletes that there are no muscles in the breasts – only skin and Cooper’s ligaments support breast tissue. Excessive breast bounce puts strain on these ligaments causing them to stretch and once they are over stretched, they lose elasticity permanently. Wearing a Shock Absorber sports bra can help to prevent long term damage to your breasts during exercise.
