Skelmet has launched an Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign to create and build its innovative Falcon 1 3D Printed Sports Sunglasses. By using state of the art 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies, Skelmet feels that it has ‘solved the problem of ill-fitting sports eyewear, providing a unique custom made fit’.
Skelmet adds that its Falcon sports sunglasses will ‘fix a problem that 93% of the population have with their eyewear; they were not made for one specific person and don’t fit, resulting in them slipping down the nose, steaming up, touching eye lashes and being very distracting.’
The company feels that its new crowd-funded glasses will be differentiated due to:
- Superior fit and design. Skelmet has created a patented process called 3D fit technology. This is billed as the world’s first automatic mass customization software that can translate a 3D head scan from an iPhone into customized 3D printed glasses. The process analyzes 86 key points on a person’s head and creates the design from their unique facial structure.
- Skelmet’s 3D fit technology process allows customers to ‘create the most aerodynamic and lightest sports sunglasses on the market’. Weighing in at just 17g they claimed to be 30% lighter than a comparable set of high-end sports eyewear.
Using the Skelmet app, customers can buy a pair of custom made sunglasses in 3 steps on their iPhone and have their unique eyewear in their hands within 2-3 weeks with worldwide shipping. Coupled with the state of the art patented anti-fog lenses, 5 lens colours soon to be available, and polarized, tinted or prescription options, these are billed as being ‘the best sports sunglasses you have ever owned’.
Through Skelmet’s Indiegogo campaign, the Falcon 1 sunglasses can be pre-ordered for the early bird price of US$229.
