The USA Triathlon Foundation has confirmed that Stephen Ban, a long-time triathlete and Managing Director of Nuveen Asset Management, has joined the USA Triathlon Foundation Board of Trustees.
Ban brings extensive experience in marketing, advertising and a variety of financial industries. At Nuveen Asset Management, a global multi-asset class investment management firm headquartered in Chicago, Ban oversees business development across a range of distribution channels and leads the firm’s portfolio advisory team. This works in partnership with sales and portfolio managers to ensure that institutional and retail clients have access to timely, detailed market insights and portfolio updates.
Ban earned his bachelor’s in economics from Princeton University in 1984. He has been involved in multisport for 32 years and has competed in more than 100 triathlons, including two IRONMAN races. He competed at the 2016 ITU Long Course Triathlon World Championships as a part of Team USA, a USA Triathlon program comprised of amateur athletes who represent the United States at ITU world championship events.
“I’m excited with the privilege of working with such a dedicated group of volunteers, both within the foundation and within the many organizations it supports, and mostly to give back to the sport and community that has become such a critical part of my life,” Ban said. “The USA Triathlon Foundation combines two of my most fierce passions — love of the sport and the ability to impact the lives of challenged youth.”
Prior to being elected to the USA Triathlon Foundation Board of Trustees, Ban served on the USA Triathlon Foundation Advisory Board and as the Chair of the Fundraising Committee.
Ban currently serves on the board of directors of MetroSquash, a literacy, tutoring and sports program serving challenged youth in the city of Chicago. He is an active member of the Princeton University Alumni Council, where he serves on the Alumni Schools Committee and the board of the Princeton Club of Chicago. He also serves as Chair of the Distribution Council of the Mutual Fund Education Alliance, as well as on the Sales Force Marketing Committee of the Investment Companies Institute.
The USA Triathlon Foundation was created in 2014 by the USA Triathlon Board of Directors as a separate tax-exempt 501(c)(3) entity. Under the leadership of its Trustees and Committee members, the Foundation serves as a means to create a healthier America through triathlon, and seeks to open up new pathways to the sport through the generosity of donors.
USA Triathlon Foundation operates with the belief that every child should have the chance to participate, every paratriathlete should have the opportunity to compete, and every aspiring elite athlete should be able to chase his or her Olympic dream.
