The STARMAN Night Triathlon in Scotland has announced it will be back for a second event in 2018. The inaugural event took place through the night on Saturday 19 August this year, with the vent organisers hailing it ‘a huge success and many competitors keen to come back again next year’.
The 2018 middle-distance triathlon will take place overnight from 18-19 August against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. Participants will begin at midnight by diving into the black waters of Loch Morlich for a 1.2 mile swim, followed by a 56-mile cycle along the eerily quiet Speyside roads before running to the summit of Cairn Gorm and Meall a Bhuachaille as the dawn rises on this iconic setting.
The event is managed by True Grit Events, an event management company based in the Highlands which set up the STARMAN Night Triathlon to offer something different for triathletes and outdoor addicts. This event came on the back of True Grit successfully managing the Cateran Yomp for ABF The Soldiers´ Charity, an ultra-endurance challenge that saw almost 1,000 people walking or running 54 miles of the Cateran Way, raising around £350,000 for the Soldiers’ Charity.

Caroline MacKechnie from True Grit Events said “We were delighted by the success of our first event and are thrilled to be able to announce the dates for next year’s Starman Night Triathlon. Everyone who took part this year was so enthusiastic about the race and we hope to see many of them back next year, along with lots of new faces.”
The STARMAN Night Triathlon can be undertaken individually or as part of a relay team, and competitors can enter online, where there is an early bird discount running until the end of January. The organisers are hoping to attract people from across the UK and beyond that are brave enough to attempt this unique challenge. This year’s overall winner was Sean McFarlane, 44, on 6:39:07 with the first female competitor to cross the line being Gillian Sangster, 46 years old with a time of 7:33:05.
Set up by Andrew Hastings and Caroline MacKechnie, True Grit Events ‘create, build and deliver exceptional endurance challenge events’. The company’s mission is to ‘run unique and challenging events in spectacular places, giving everyone the opportunity to go further, train harder and achieve more than they ever thought possible’.
