The Cardiff Triathlon 2019 event, set in the heart of the Welsh capital city, has been named as a 2019 ITU Sprint Distance Triathlon Age Group Qualifier by British Triathlon – and the organising team at Always Aim High Events has confirmed that entries are open now.
The non-draft legal sprint race has previously been a qualifier event. This year’s event in June gave age group athletes a chance to compete for a place in the 2018 ITU World Championships on the Gold Coast, Australia. Next year’s Cardiff Triathlon, on 22-23 June 2019, will enable British triathletes to qualify for racing a little bit closer to home as the 2019 ITU World Championships will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Tim Lloyd, Director at Always Aim High Events, said “The recent news from the BTF about the 2019 Cardiff Triathlon is very exciting for us and demonstrates that Wales’ capital city event has all the ingredients for delivering triathlon racing at the highest level.”
He continued, “It is especially pleasing for us as we have worked hard alongside our committed supporters at Cardiff Council, the Welsh Government and Welsh Triathlon to build a world class event in this most iconic of venues.
“2019 in Cardiff will be awesome for everyone, and a fantastic showcase for the growth of triathlon in Wales.”
Now in its fourth year, the Cardiff Triathlon is situated on the waterfront in Cardiff. The race features a swim in the secluded, warm waters of Cardiff Bay, a fast, closed road cycle route around the surrounding streets and is rounded off with a lapped run along the Cardiff Bay barrage and back to the finish line outside the Wales Millennium Centre.
Entries for the 2018/19 ITU Sprint Distance Age Group Qualifier are now open, alongside general Super Sprint, Sprint and Olympic distance entries.
