CyclingCeramic is launching its oversized pulley system. The new product offering is ‘100% made in France’, and is no relation to that produced by the Danish ceramic bearing and component manufacturer CeramicSpeed.
CyclingCeramic notes that it has taken up the challenge to develop and improve performance of the rear derailleur. At the Vélofollies bike show in Belgium, running from 19-21 January, CyclingCeramic launched its cage with oversized pulley wheels.
CyclingCeramic adds that when ‘designing 100% hand-made in France larger-size pulley wheels, the friction angle has been lessened and chain stretch is optimal’. This translates into a claimed one-minute saving in a 20km time trial, translating into a claimed gain of 2.7 watts (tested in laboratory conditions).
This CyclingCeramic oversized pulley system is reportedly endorsed by the professional teams of Vital Concept, VeranClassic and Saint-Michel Auber 93 and also by a ‘certain number of professional triathletes’. Since the beginning of CyclingCeramic in 2012, one word has been the guiding principal of the company: quality !
With a retail price set at €329, the CyclingCeramic oversized rear mech will be available for the Sram mechanical and Shimano (pre-2017) groupsets in mid-January, then for Sram Etap in February and a version for the new Shimano groupsets in early spring 2018. The cage is in carbon, with titanium screws and aluminium pulley wheels. These will be available in red, black, silver and a limited edition version.
CyclingCeramic was established in 2012, and was ‘the first French company to design and assemble specific ceramic bearings in France for cycling and almost all frames, pedals, derailleurs and wheels.’ A year later, the young company became a partner of the IAM Cycling professional team (Switzerland) and the Vienna-Futuroscope women’s team (France).
CyclingCeramic collaborations have included the Mattias Brändle hour record on October 2014 (51.852 km), Jérôme Coppel’s third place in the ITT 2015 World Championship, and the Sylvain Chavanel GP Plouay 2014 victory.
CyclingCeramic notes that it will continue to invest for the same goal: ‘improve the performance and durability of bearings for road bikes, triathlon, ITT, track or off-road.’
