The IRONMAN Foundation will award a US$1,500 Community Grant to Southern Utah Bicycle Alliance to support its bicycle education programming at 28 elementary schools in Washington County, encouraging students to ride to school while providing them with the tools needed to ride confidently. Including this grant, the IRONMAN Foundation will distribute US$25,000 in charitable giveback to non-profit initiatives and groups in the greater Washington County region in conjunction with the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 North American Pro Championship St George triathlon taking place on Saturday, May 5th.
In addition to Southern Utah Bicycle Alliance, six local non-profit organizations will receive Community Grant awards during IRONMAN 70.3 St George race week.
- Girls on the Run Southern Utah will use its award to provide running equipment and healthy snacks for local girls.
- Utah Food Bank will use its grant to support its Mobile School Pantry program in St George.
- The Rotary Club of Dixie Sunrise St George Foundation will use its grant to support Washington County Search and Rescue, increasing water safety for its volunteer responders and thousands of residents in the local community.
- Assistance League of Southern Utah will provide additional books to expand its literacy programs, instilling a love of learning in local school children.
- The Learning Center for Families will purchase supplies for its programs serving vulnerable families in Southern Utah.
- The Washington City Concert Band will use its grant award for instruments and concert expenses to enrich the lives of its musicians and local concert-goers.
The IRONMAN Foundation Community Fund provides community and volunteerism grant opportunities to non-profit organizations where IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 events are held. This year’s grant funding brings the total giveback to more than US$373,000 among 75 organizations in the St George region. In 2018, the IRONMAN Foundation will distribute more than US$1.7 million in grant funding to support the needs of IRONMAN race communities across North America.
