Blockchain technology specialist XYO Network has announced a partnership with Run2Play, an organisation that enables those who love to run to simultaneously raise money for charity.
Leveraging XYO’s blockchain/cryptographic location network, Run2Play combines fitness, charity and gaming. It lets runners raise money for non-profits, earning cryptocurrency for a charity during the runner’s training period, or simply when they are jogging around their local neighbourhood.
“Run2Play puts fitness and charity on the blockchain, giving users the chance to earn money each time they hit the pavement via our app,” said Run2Play founder Joseph Anthony. “XYO delivers precise location data that helps verify each runner’s journey, so charities can ultimately benefit from the earnings.”
“At XYO, we believe leveraging everyday fitness for charity via the blockchain is not just brilliant but noble,” added XYO Network co-founder Scott Scheper. “This could be the way that many or even all non-profits raise money in the future.”
The Run2Play platform operates using virtual currency RUNcoin to reward users for their fitness activity. Via a user-friendly interface, physical activity can be converted into currency. RUNcoin can be used in game, in app, and converted into other cryptocurrencies.
The company elaborates… ‘At the core of Run2Play is the ability to give back. Users will have the opportunity to earn currency with their physical activity, or to share the currency they earn with friends, charitable organizations, or other causes. We will thereby be able to create the opportunity for those who are fit and active to be fed and happy, with a vision to emphasize this benefit within developing countries. How far would you run to feed the world?’
XYO Network is aiming to ‘create a vast, geospatial, blockchain-powered location network’. This is currently under development and has a goal to provide accurate, certainty-driven location data on everything from cars to smartphones. By combining location beacons with IoT (Internet of Things) and mobile devices, the XYO Network ecosystem plans to deliver verified coordinates and data needed to execute smart contracts, run smart cities, foster financial transactions, and power a legion of location-centric applications.
