Having had its rebirth in September 2017 – in Rorschach, Switzerland – the TriStar triathlon series opened up the 2018 season in the Middle East. The inaugural TriStar Fujairah took place in the United Arab Emirates on 23 March 2018 and offered up four distance formats: 11.1K, 33.3K, 55.5K and 111K.
With a variety of distances on offer the TriStar team’s focus lays in approaching a variety of target groups such as beginners, families and age groupers. One highlight of TriStar Fujairah was the unique, hilly bike course in the Al Hajar mountains with its impressibe scenery.
The TriStar series’ co-owner, former pro cyclist and double Olympic champion, Fabian Cancellara got a feel for the race on-site and registered for the TriStar 33.3 distance. “It was fun; and seeing participants with different fitness levels is exactly what TriStar stands for,” said Fabian Cancellara. “Our distances address the mass where we see a huge potential to push this movement.”
At the longest distance, TriStar 111, Luxembourger Christian Weyland secured victory with a time of 03:48:33, followed by Jan De Henau from Belgium (03:54:36) and Christian Henn from Germany (03:55:32).
The race day was finished off by an award ceremony and BBQ lunch near the beach, in the gardens of the Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resorts.
From 2010 to 2012 TriStar grew rapidly, with a total of 25 events held and participation from over 30,000 athletes hailing from Europe, the Caribbean and North and South America. After a four-year break, on 2-3 September 2017 the TriStar event brand’s relaunch took place in Rorschach (Switzerland).
