Taking place on May 4-5, riders are being invited to test their limits in the Zipp High Desert Speed Challenge on Zwift.
Zwift will hook up a rider’s avatar with a virtual version of ‘one of the fastest sets of wheels on the planet’: the Zipp 858 NSW front and Super-9 rear disc.
The race against the clock takes place on May 4-5 on the latest Watopia expansion. With lots of flats, this course is seen as ideal for time trialling. Zwift will post 96 events over the two day period, one event every 30 minutes. The first event is at 12am (Pacific time) on May 4 and the last event is at 11:30pm (Pacific time) on May 5.
Zipp notes that the High Desert Speed Challenge is a race… ‘It’s a race against yourself. It’s a race against the clock. It’s a test to see where your fitness is. If you go so hard you start seeing things, you’re doing it right. Rest your mind and body for this. You’re going to have to work smart and hard. And it won’t feel good doing it. But you’ll feel great having done it.’
Level A – open to men and women; distance (55.089 km) 34.23 miles
Level B – open to women only; distance (47.980 km) 29.813 miles
Level C – open to men and women; distance (23.331 km) 14.4972 miles
Those that finish the Zipp High Desert Speed Challenge will receive the Zipp in-game kit. Real-world prizes are also available:
- 858 wheelset for one random finisher in the level A group
- 858 wheelset for one random finisher in the B group
- SL-70 Aero bar and SL Speed stem for one random finisher in the C group
The virtual races are open to individuals 18+ who are registered with Zwift.
